Our new (old) house

Hello!

We’d like to welcome you inside our new (1977 built) home.

This is the first house for my wife and I, and although we like it as it is, we are looking forward into making it something we absolutely love!

We already have a few ideas in our minds, but before all that begins let us give you a little photo-grand-tour of our new and first place…

This is the Entryway, or as my wife and I call it, the front-room…

This is the room you see right when you walk into the front door.  It has a balcony so you can see out the front, and a big side window, so it has a lot of outdoor views.  We’re thinking this will eventually become a reading / lounge type room.  But for now, it just displays Christy’s upright piano, a landline phone, and a small attempt at decoration with curly willows in a vase.

Next up, is the living room…

Walking down the entryway past the front-room and you’re greeted to the main living space by Mr. Corbusier.  The open design here is one of the aspects that attracted us to this house, it’s wide open and seems to be a great setting for entertaining from kitchen to dinner to living area.

Moving along, here’s a closer pic of our dining area…

What looks like white walls in this area is actually wood-paneling (that was painted blue!) that we have filled smooth with putty, painted and textured.  We did all this before our furniture from the moving company arrived and while both our parents were around to help.

Onto the kitchen…

This part of the house was actually just remodeled a bit before they put it up for sale and was another selling points for us.  Lots of space, and storage room, and a look that was already on the modern end of the spectrum.  We’re looking forward to cooking up lots of yummy things in here.

Now let’s move along to the other end of the house.  First up is the guest bathroom…

This room has a new basin vanity in it, and a diamond paint scheme we’re not sure how we feel about.   We do like the colors though, and the dark wood of the sink and mirror.

Across the way is the office area…

This is the 2nd of 3 rooms with an sliding window that leads to an outside balcony with a view of the front of the house.  Its a wide open room, with lots of space.

And here’s the guest room…

Not much to see here yet.  It is one of the two rooms with carpet (our master is the other) and has a good amount of space.

And now the Master Bedroom…

Pretty spacious area with outdoor view and connected bathroom area…

And that does it for the main part of the house.  Now onto two other unique features that made us decide to make this house our first.

The backyard…

Not too many places in Austin offer a backyard with this amount of real estate.  So we’re excited about having future BBQ’s and cookouts here.  It’s a little hokey as it is, and the landscaping leaves a lot to be desired but we at least got something to work with.

And finally, the apartment…

Out of all the houses we looked at this was the only one with a upstairs, completed apartment built over top of the garage.  The previous owners rented it out, and by the looks of it weren’t very discerning on who they rent it out to.  Walls and doors are scratched up with big dog claws, and the window treatments are in shambles.  It has a lot of area though, bathroom, kitchen hookups, and all the necessities.  This is one of the first areas we’ll probably address when it comes time to start our remodeling efforts.

Well,  that’s our little tour.  Hope you enjoyed it, and hope you hang around as we take this home and make it into our own.
